Preparing for SNAP Cuts

Woman speaking at a podium.

Many of the neighbors we serve at St. Peter’s rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to help put food on the table. Because of the federal government shutdown, the Trump administration has said there may not be enough funding to cover SNAP benefits, and our community is feeling the impact.

We typically prepare about 400 meals each day. If SNAP benefits are reduced or delayed, we expect a significant increase in the number of people turning to our kitchen. Meeting that need requires more infrastructure, more volunteers, and additional funding.

We’ve been speaking with local media about what this means for Rochester:

Rochester First: Rochester food pantries brace for surge as SNAP cuts loom

News 10 NBC: Local groups demand Trump administration reverse SNAP cuts amid government shutdown

Spectrum News 1: Advocates warn losing SNAP benefits will add to food insecurity across N.Y.

Your support makes an incredible difference in the struggle for equitable access to healthy food.
